Project 12

These shots, all taken from Scarborough promenade, show the difference made by the positioning of the horizon. All were taken at 28mm, f/20 and 1/320 second.

The first has the horizon very low in the frame. Luckily, there are some interesting clouds in the sky, otherwise this would not be a very interesting shot at all

The second shot has the horizon positioned almost central, and I think this has a lot more interest. The cloud formations are still visible, but you can now see that it is a seaside scene with sandy beach, blue sea and cliffs in the distance.

The third shot is the one I like best. The little cloud that is visible seems to mirror the cliffs, whilst the long stretch of sandy beach, with the slightly diagonal lines shows the depth of the picture. Also, there are footprints in the sand which help to give some idea of proportions and perspective.

Maybe, there are so many horizontal, or near horizontal lines that the actual horizon is less important and maybe the sea, or the dark line in the sand provide the eye with another false horizon.
